The Upshaws

One of the binge worthy series that we discovered during the pandemic lockdown is “The Upshaws”, starring stand up comedy veterans - Wanda Sykes and Mike Epps. They are back with another eight-episode second season on Netflix.

“The Upshaws” is a sitcom about a hard working family in Indiana that juggles the struggles of life. And like most families they find out that lots of love and laughter will get you through almost anything. The show features my fav duo: Bennie Upshaw (Mike Epps) a mechanic that’s constantly screwing up his personal life and his sarcastic sister-in-law (Wanda Sykes) who is quick to remind him of alllllllll of his shortcomings. Mrs. Regina Upshaw (Kim Fields), their two young daughters (Khali Spraggins, Journey Christine) and first-born son Jermelle Simon), the teenage son (Diamond Lyons) Bennie fathered with another woman (Gabrielle Dennis). The entire cast is back to pick up right where they left off.

“The Upshaws” was created by Wanda Sykes and Regina Y. Hicks. “We were so excited to do a show that felt like some of our old school favorites. Sitcoms that were about everyday people dealing with everyday stuff that we can relate to and that can make us laugh. We need a break from all the drama we’re all experiencing and we’re hoping to give everybody a little comic relief” said Wanda.

Season one was definitely a breath of fresh air for us. Prepare to get your laugh on again during season 2 of “The Upshaws”. It drops June 29th on Netflix.
