Black Women’s Month 👑

March is Black Women’s Month. We are continuing to celebrate our ENTIRE selves and that includes OUR HAIR. The fact that we, along with our Mothers and Grandmothers have been discriminated against and frowned upon because of the hair that naturally grows out of our scalp - is absolutely INFURIATING! And the fact that we were forced to succumb to this “my hair is less than” mentality for generations is both heart breaking and enraging.

It is bewildering that we have to get the LAW involved to style our GOD given NATURAL hair. As a result it is now time to turn this collective anger into action. I was so invigorated when I discovered all of the amazing accomplishments of The Crown Act!

The CROWN (Create a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural Hair) Act is a movement to prohibit discrimination based on hair style and hair texture by extending protection for both categories under the FEHA and the California Education Code. It is the first legislation passed at the state level in the United States to prohibit such discrimination.

Over 20M African Americans now have hair protections for hairstyles such as braids, locs, twists, afros or bantu knots etc. In 14 states you can wear your hair in any of the previously mentioned hairstyles and do it without the threat of being terminated or sent home from school. The Crown Act efforts will not stop until Black hair is protected in all 50 states.

Join the nationwide movement and inform your family and friends about The Crown Act! The 1st step is to sign the petition and or email your U.S. Senator by clicking this link: https://linktr.ee/thecrownact
